Real-time analysis

Telecom systems analysis

In collaboration with Telecom Italia Lab and Fondazione Silvio Tronchetti Provera, 2004 - 2006

The telecom operators manage a set of very useful information: the information that each mobile phone exchanges with the cellular network to manage the communication.  In fact such information may be suitably exploited to individuate its geographical location.

Mobile phones can then be considered as position and displacement sensors, distributed in a capillary manner. The aggregate and anonymous elaboration of such sensors data can allow, for instance, to estimate the automobile traffic and the people flow, everywhere and in real-time. Nowadays no other systems can achieve this goal without using ad-hoc infrastructures.

The present research concerns the development of algorithms and procedures in order to elaborate the location data and design dynamical models which easily describe the automobile traffic and the people flow.
