Scope

The need for improved performance, reliability, and security in heterogeneous networked systems has led to the rapid development of novel solutions for the design, optimization, control, and management of wired and wireless networked system. In this context, interdisciplinary approaches have received considerable attention since they provide techniques, models and methods coming from different research fields and a proper integration move towards efficient and effective solutions. Providing optimization, security and improving the reliability of communications in heterogeneous scenarios has proven to be a challenging task that requires innovative and sometimes revolutionary contributions  to keep up with the rapid evolution and ever increasing complexity of such systems. This workshop will bring together scientists, engineers, practitioners, and computer users to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all aspects of the design, optimization, control, and management of the current and next generation of heterogeneous networked systems. The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • - Self-organizing and self-configuration networked systems

  • - Network operations, optimizations & management

  • - Multimedia networked systems

  • - Theoretical design, analysis and optimization frameworks

  • - Protocols and novel design approaches

  • - Comparison and optimization

  • - Communication algorithms for heterogeneous networks including:

    • - Interconnection networks and Network on Chip (NoC)

    • - Cluster, cloud and grid based systems

    • - Mobile and wireless networks

    • - Ubiquitous networked systems

  • - Workload characterizations

  • - Performance modeling and simulation

  • - Performance analysis and evaluation

  • - Case studies crossing design, management, and practical implementations.

Paper submission instructions

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished research and recent developments in the topics related to the workshop. Regular paper submissions should conform to the following requirements: submitted papers should be formatted in a two-column IEEE Computer Society format and should not exceed 6 pages including figures and references. All papers will be peer reviewed and the comments will be provided to the authors. All regular paper submissions will be handled electronically via email. Please send your paper in pdf to Eduardo Cerqueira (ecoelho [at] dei [dot] uc [dot] pt). If your submission has not been confirmed by email at least 6 hours after the deadline, please contact Eduardo Cerqueira.

  • - A maximum of SIX 8.5"x11" pages (including figures, tables, and references)

  • - The paper must be in two-column format, following the guidelines of the IEEE Computer Society
    (http://computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm)

  • - It must use PDF format

Parallel Poster/Demonstration Session

A parallel poster/demonstration session entitled 'Demonstrations on Design, Optimization and Management of Heterogeneous Networked Systems'¯ will be organized along with the main workshop. This event encourages researchers to present and discuss 'work-in-progress'¯ or 'experience-in-practice' of their current implementations and research prototypes that cover the topics of workshop. Authors are invited to submit a short paper of up to 2 pages following the format of workshop. The papers should specifically focus on implementation and practical aspects such as:

  • - Experiments/lessons on design, optimization, control, and management networked systems

  • - Performance evaluation of design, optimization, control, and management networked systems
