Italian Group of Mechanics for Machines and Mechanical Systems


The ItaMMMS, Italian Group of Mechanics for Machines and Mechanical Systems (in Italy: GMA, Gruppo italiano di Meccanica Applicata), includes associated and full professors and researchers belonging to the Scientific and Disciplinary Section ING-IND/13, actually reckoning approx. 170 members in 32 different Italian Universities. The Group was founded on 1986 (with different name), and instituted with actual denomination on 1989. GMA's first President was  prof. Arrigo Vallatta =(Polytechnics of Milan).

The Group President is now Prof. Guido Belforte (Polytechnics of Turin), whereas the Presidence Board includes: Prof. Vincenzo D'Agostino (University of Salerno), Prof. Giorgio Diana (Polytechnics of Milan), Prof. Angelo Gentile Polytechnics of Bari), Prof. Vincenzo Parenti Castelli (University of Bologna), Prof. Aldo Rossi (University of Padova) .

GMA activity is ruled and  defined by the new Statute and connected Directions that have been approved during the group meeting which took place on September 2001 in Taormina. More specifically, aim of the Group is individuating the scientific research and didactic general leanings and tendencies of  development specifically regarding Applied Mechanics, thus contributing to this development through every activity of the Members.

Finally, the GMA:

§          Promotes and coordinates scientific research in applied mechanics;

§          Sits for interlocutor towards authorities ruling universitary instruction and scientific and technological ( national and international) research;

§          Improves interaction between researchers belonging to the Group or to other groups, promoting cooperation also with private or public authorities operating and researching in the same range of activity;

§          Encourages the participation of the members to all  sessions and meetings concerning Applied Mechanics;

§          Promotes every didactic initiative and course, also post-lauream, in all Italian Polytechnics and Universities;

§          Stimulates national and international scientific divulgence relating applied mechanics;

§          Stimulates forming activities in the field.
