Wind Tunnel Tests

The DAF Research Group uses and manages the main subsonic wind tunnel facility of the Department of Industrial Engineering. Wind tunnel characteristics are a maximum achievable speed of 50 m/s and a 2 times 1.4 meters test section. Wind-Tunnel research activities are focused on aircraft components tests, more than 20 airfoils single and multi-component, and several scaled complete aircraft 3D tests (ultralight and general aviation). Wind-tunnel tests of a small helicopter have been also performed in the past. Almost all Tecnam aircraft have been accurately tested in the wind-tunnel facility, thanks to the experience of the research group. Forces, Moments and pressure distributions can be easily measured. It is also possible perform visualization and experimental-numerical correlations.
