Flora Amato is a researcher in the field of Information Management. Her research activities involve both theoretical and experimental work in Information Integration, Formal Modeling, Verification Techniques and Knowledge Management.

She is Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of University of Napoli Federico II, Faculty of Engineering, where she carries out her research activity since 2006.

She gained qualification for Associate Professor in August 2017.

She graduated summa cum laude in Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences at the University Federico II of Naples in 2005. She received in 2009 the "Doctor of Philosophy" (PhD) degree in Computer and Control Engineering at the same University.

She was visiting researcher at the Departament de Ciències de la Computació of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona (Spain) in the period from March to April, 2013, where she collaborated with Prof Fatos Xhafa on semantic techniques for the definition and the composition of processes. She was a visiting researcher at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Maryland (USA) in the period from February to March 2015, and in September 2015; where she collaborated with Professor V.S. Subrahmanian on topics of data analysis and anomaly detection.

She served as Editor and Guest Editor for several Journals.

She served as  Program Chair of (i) the 33nd IEEE AINA-2019, (ii) the 6th EIDWT-2018, (iii) the 10-th INCoS-2018 and the (iv) 11th 3PGCIC-2016.

 She was Chair of many Sessions and Workshops.

She was member of more than 50 Program and Organization Committees of International Conferences.

In 2017 she was awarded with the Best Paper Price at the 11th CISIS-2017.

In 2010, she won the national award "Working Capital" for best research projects, promoted by Telecom Italia S.p.A. obtaining research funds for designing a platform for semantic search. In 2009, she was awarded with the prize "Scrivi il Futuro" for the best research projects proposed by Ph.D. students from scientific faculties.

In 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 she received an award for the significant scientific contribution in the International Conference on P2p, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing (3PGCIC- 2013/2014/2015/2016/2018) conference (sponsored by IEEE).

In 2016, 2017 and 2018 she received an award for the significant scientific contribution in the IEEE International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA-2016/2017)

She is author of more than 130 research papers, published on IEEE Transaction, Elsevier Journal of Visual Languages & Computing, Elsevier Knowledge-Based Systems and Elsevier International Journal of Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory; Transactions on Data Privacy, Logic Journal of the IGPL of Oxford University Press and Inderscience International Journals.

She is Scientific Manager of local Unit of CeRICT scrl for several Projects and Leader of the  Work Package 4-Informatics of the European Project CREA,  Conflict Resolution with Equitative Algorithms - Grant Agreement number: 766463.

She is leader of Tasks for many projects. She participated to several funded projects, both national and international.

She cooperates with different Italian and International Academic Institutions and Research Institutes.

She is lecturer at the course of “Artificial Intelligence” and “Multimedia Systems” for the Degree Course in Computer Engineering, at the University of Naples “Federico II”. She was lecturer at the courses of “Foundations of Informatics”, “Elements of Computer Science” and “Tools and Programming Techniques” at the same University.
